Dimitris Georgopoulos

Dimitris Georgopoulos is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Medical School, University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece.

Dr. Georgopoulos received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece. After completion of his training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in General hospital “G. Papanikolaou”, Thessaloniki, Greece, Dr. Georgopoulos continued his postgraduate training in Respiratory System Physiology in the Section of Respiratory Diseases and Critical Care Medicine of the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada.

He is author, co-author or editor of over 250 books, book chapters and articles. His research interests include control of breathing during mechanical ventilation, patient-ventilator interaction, lung mechanics, sleep in critically ill patients, and lung echography, among others. His work is cited more than 5000 times with an h-index of >35.
