Dr Feisul Idzwan Mustapha
MBBS, MPH, FAMM

Dr Feisul Mustapha is a consultant public health physician, best known for his leadership in the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in Malaysia. His special areas of interest include diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers and obesity. At the Ministry of Health Malaysia, he is the Deputy Director (NCDs) at the Disease Control Division, and his main roles include policy and program development, and strategic implementation of interventions for the prevention and control of NCDs. In addition, Dr Feisul has special interest in leveraging on technology in catalysing behavioural modification to reduce the exposure to NCD risk factors.

He combines his high-level experiences in the government with active engagement of civil society and multilateral institutions. Dr Feisul is currently Chair of the Scientific Advisory Group for the Monash University South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO). In addition, he is a Board Member for the International Advisory Board of the United Nations University - International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), a Member of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on the Prevention and Control of NCDs (STAG-NCD) for WHO Geneva, and also a Member of the Policy Advisory Group of the World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF).

Dr Veerasak Sarinnapakorn
DIABETES AND ENDOCRINOLOGY UNIT, DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE, RAJAVITHI HOSPITAL

Professor Veerasak Sarinnapakorn is professor of medicine at Rajavithi Hospital under Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of Diabetes and Endocrinology.

Currently he is chief of Diabetes and Endocrinology unit and chief of Research and Technology Assessment Committee of Rajavithi Hospital. Apart from working in Rajavithi Hospital, he is a President of Thai Association of Diabetes Educators.

Dr Sana Ajmal

Dr Sana Ajmal is a seasoned diabetes advocate, with years of work experience with various programs with International Diabetes Federation, including the Young Leaders in Diabetes, Diabetes Education Consultative Section, the World Diabetes Congress Program Committee, WHO and ISPAD.

Living with diabetes since the age of 15, she is the Founder and Executive Director of Meethi Zindagi, a community-centric, non-profit organisation in Pakistan. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Her work revolves around providing insulin and test strips to the underprivileged children with type 1 diabetes; and psycho-social support and peer education to the diabetes community for empowering them to lead thriving lives. She has been striving to implement culturally tailored international best practices in Pakistan, co-designed with the community so that they stand our at meaningful and robust for people living with diabetes. Sana strongly believes that sustainable change can only be brought about when people with diabetes are recognized as the experts and key stakeholders, and the recognition should be pivoted on powerful, non-discriminatory communication from all quarters.

Sana holds a PhD in Computer Engineering. Her professional training for systems-thinking and the constant longing for learning and pilot implementation testing has pushed her and to thinking redesigned process models with a forward looking approach representative of the needs of the diabetes community.

Prof Mike Lean
MA, MB, BChir, MD, FRCP (Edinburgh), FRCPS (Glasgow), FRSE

Professor of Human Nutrition, University of Glasgow, and consultant physician at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Visiting professor, Universities of Otago and Sydney.

Professor Lean leads 'broad-focus' translational, integrative, research and teaching within medical and nutrition training, integrating biomedical research at basic science, clinical and public health levels. Currently PI on the largest research grant ever awarded by Diabetes UK, the Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT, £2.6m), an NIHR-funded weight loss for long COVID (ReDIRECT, £1.0m), collaborative dietary diabetes remission projects in Nepal and Australia, and pharmaceutical trials. Published over 600 scientific articles and books, G-Scholar H-Index = 115.

Awards include Diabetes UK-Rank Prize Lecturer (2014), Banting Memorial Lecturer (2020/21), Tenovus Medal for Research (2017), elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland's National Academy (2018).

Lee Lai Fun

Lee Lai Fun is a dietitian with over 25 years of experience. She has a special interest in diabetes care since the early years of her career. She has been a member of the national guidelines committee for Malaysia Medical Nutrition Therapy Guidelines for type 2 diabetes and was involved in the development of the Diabetes Manual for diabetes educators. Recently, she received the Fellow Award from the Malaysia Dietetics Association for her contribution to the dietetics profession.

Dr Daphne Gardner
BA (PHYSIOLOGICAL SCIENCES), BMBCH (OXON)

Dr Daphne Gardner graduated from Oxford University (UK) [BA (Physiological Sciences), BMBCh (Oxon)] and was a clinical lecturer in Plymouth (UK) before attaining specialist accreditation in Endocrinology in Singapore. Her fellowship year was spent in the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, UK. She now serves as a Senior Consultant Endocrinologist and lead clinician for Young Adults with Diabetes, and the Intensive Insulin therapy programme (including pumps and CGM) in Singapore General Hospital.

She is an adjunct Associate Professor with Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Director of Education in the SingHealth- Duke Disease Centre for Diabetes. She has held 2 grants aimed at stratifying diabetes to direct personalised therapy, and currently holds a Ministry of Health (Singapore) grant in the use of flash glucose monitoring to enhance diabetes education in type 2 diabetes.

Dr Melanie Burkhardt

Dr Melanie Burkhardt currently works as a Senior Clinical Psychologist, within the multidisciplinary diabetes team at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH). Prior to joining FSH in February 2015, she held senior academic positions alongside clinical roles at Fremantle Hospital and in private practice.

Her longstanding interests in improving the care of high risk patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders has led Melanie to develop an embedded clinical service, and an applied research programme focusing on the translation and evaluation of evidence-based psychological and behavioural interventions that aim to improve chronic condition self-management and clinical outcomes in these patient groups.

Dr Kaye Farrell

Dr Kaye Farrell is a Clinical Nurse Consultant and co-ordinator of the multidisciplinary diabetes transition service, for patients aged 15-25year, at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. Her PhD thesis evaluated models of care, in particular the Westmead model, and diabetes outcomes in young adults after transition from paediatric to adult health services. She has extensive experience in diabetes technology as the service manages approximately 60% of the cohort on insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring. We expect this number will increase with the new CGM initiative and introduction of new models of hybrid closed loop insulin pumps in Australia.

Rachael Baker

Rachael is passionate about staying up to date with diabetes technology, as well as the delivery methods of this technology and education to her patients. She has worked with public and private centres to create new models of care and service delivery pathways and believes that all Australians should have access to the latest and greatest in diabetes care. Her private practice reaches patients on the national and international scale, via the bridge that is Telehealth.

Rachael began her work within the Diabetes field through working as a Clinical Trial Coordinator for type 1 and type 2 Diabetes Research. She has since worked at Queensland's major tertiary Paediatric, Young Adult and Adult services. She currently consults paediatrics and adults with all types of diabetes privately through Macintyre Health, and she also practices publicly at the Queensland Children's Hospital.

With a Bachelor in Nursing and Post Graduate Certification in Diabetes Education in Management, Rachael is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator with the Australia Diabetes Educator's Association and is a certified Insulin Pump Trainer for all Australian systems. Rachael is also currently completing her Masters in Nurse Practitioners to continue expanding her scope and impact in the field.

Lisa Parkinson

Lisa is the Senior Exercise Physiologist, Diabetes Educator and owner of Optimum Exercise Physiology & Diabetes. Her educational background includes a Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology, a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise & Sports Science) and a graduate certificate in Diabetes Management and Education.

Lisa's clinical expertise includes the delivery of exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification and education programs for the prevention and management of chronic medical conditions, with a special interest in diabetes, pre diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular health and osteoporosis. As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Credentialled Diabetes Educator and certified Wellness Coach Lisa enjoys combining these therapies, or providing each as a stand-alone treatment.

Outside of her clinical roles as an Exercise Physiologist and Diabetes Educator, Lisa has a history of working in health promotion and is a passionate advocate for preventative health and education for the local community. She has presented at a number of national conferences, and led regular health promotion segments on local radio on topics related to exercise and health management; and is a HEAL (Healthy Eating Activity Lifestyle) Facilitator leading group education to people living with obesity, diabetes, pre diabetes, and cardiovascular disease to improve their health management through goal setting and lifestyle changes.

Lisa founded Optimum Exercise Physiology in 2015 with her vision to enhance the health of the Clare Valley community, inspiring them to live at their optimum. Lisa leads a passionate team, working with people with chronic and complex medical conditions, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Lisa is an active member of local sporting groups, enjoys running along local trails, and loves to enjoy water sports with her family along the River Murray.

Professor Muhammad Yakoob Ahmedani
M.B.B.S, F.C.P.S. (Pak)

Professor M. Yakoob Ahmedani is the Deputy Director at Baqai Institute of Diabetology and Endocrinology and Professor of Medicine at Baqai Medical University. He is the project director of 'Insulin-my life', in collaboration with World Diabetes Foundation to improve the care of people with Type 1 diabetes in the Sindh province. He has published >65 research publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Being the founding member of Pakistan Endocrine Society, he holds executive memberships in various organizations including Health Promotion Foundation, National Association of Diabetes Educators of Pakistan and Diabetes in Asia Study Group.

Ivan Chan

Ivan Chan is an Accredited Practising Dietitian who has been working at EACH, an urban community health service in Melbourne's outer east as a community dietitian for 20 years, as well as at Diabetes Victoria for 14 years. Ivan is also a Board Member with the Primary Care Diabetes Society of Australia.

Over the past three years, Ivan emceed Diabetes Victoria's Chinese Living Well events for Cantonese and Mandarin speaking Victorians, using face-to-face and virtual platforms to provide culturally relevant diabetes care involving other Chinese-speaking clinicians. Ivan has appeared on radio interviews with SBS Cantonese Radio.

Ivan enjoys working with people living with diabetes to empower them for sustainable change. Being DAFNE-trained, he also runs carbohydrate counting workshops for adults with type 1 diabetes as well as various training for health professionals.

Mark Shah

Mark has worked as an RN for the past 24 years and a Nurse Practitioner for 14 years, having completed NP training in W.A in 2006 and gained his first position in 2008. He first became a Credentialled Diabetes Educator in 2003 and quickly learned about the optimism of technology, new treatments and the everyday struggles for people living with diabetes. Mark started his career in diabetes at Royal Perth Hospital and later moved to Princess Margaret Hospital for children to start the work he continues today, working as an NP and CDE. He now cares for children with all diabetes types, particularly youth onset T2D where he is also collaborating on several research studies.

Siobhan Barlow

Siobhan Barlow is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator, Registered Nurse and Midwife living in Mackay, North Queensland. She is a Nurse Practitioner Candidate specialising in Diabetes and Obesity.

She works in the public hospital system in regional Mackay but has spent many years working in rural and remote parts of Queensland. Her roles in Queensland Health such as Nurse Navigator and Chronic Disease Clinical Nurse have enabled her to provide support for people with all types of diabetes across Proserpine, Bowen and Collinsville.

She is a privately practicing Credentialled Diabetes Educator and certified Pump trainer with a focus on improving support for people with diabetes who live in rural and remote areas of Queensland. She operates clinics in Proserpine, Bowen, Mackay and Sarina to support people with diabetes of all ages.

She works part time as a Clinical Nurse Consultant - Tele trial Research and Support Coordinator in the Research Unit at Mackay Base Hospital conducting a Clinical Trial to improve self-management for people with Diabetes on insulin in an acute care setting.

She is on the Inpatient Diabetes Working Group for the state-wide Diabetes Clinical Network in QLD, and the former ADEA QLD Branch Executive Education Officer. She is a board member for the Type 1 Foundation.

Dr Ramy Bishay

Ramy is a staff specialist endocrinologist and clinical director of the Metabolic & Weight Loss Program at Blacktown Hospital. He also works in private practice as director of the multidisciplinary Endocrine and Metabolic Clinic in the Ashley Centre, Westmead. He did his endocrinology and physician's training at St Vincent's, Concord, Blacktown and St George Hospitals.

He hails from Toronto, Canada where he graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor's and masters in cardiac transplantation. Ramy studied medicine at the University of Sydney and graduated with honours. He is a mid-career researcher and continues to give talks at both national and international conferences in endocrinology, obesity, diabetes, metabolic bone disease and thyroid disease. He is an adjunct senior lecturer at the University of Western Sydney. He is currently enrolled in a PhD degree studying the metabolic, functional and psychological outcomes following intensive behavioural vs surgical weight loss interventions.
