Cardiac Arrest in the Wilderness
SYMPOSIUM 7 - WILDERNESS MEDICINE 2 (Hall 2)
26th October 2021 (1530 - 1650)

Although survival following urban cardiopulmonary resuscitation in out of hospital cardiac arrest is increasing globally, the odds are still low. This is even more pronounced in the wilderness setting due to uncertain challenges pose by the environment, availability of resuscitation equipments, unpredictable access to definitive treatment and limitation in human factors. While there are limited case reports of patient that achieves return of spontaneous circulation following successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation available, the outcome is dependable on rapid transfer to tertiary center.

Therefore, decision for intervention must be considered judiciously. Prevention and pre-travel assessment are the golden keys in surviving the wilderness setting.
