Dr Chung Wai Mun is currently practicing as an emergency physician in Taiping Hospital, Perak, Malaysia. He graduated from University of Malaya in 2007. He subsequently attained the Master of Emergency Medicine from University of Malaya in 2015. He is the first emergency physician in Malaysia who received a Fellowship of Geriatric Emergency Medicine from the pioneer geriatric emergency medicine center in Singapore, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, in early 2019. Dr Chung is one of the main contributors in the development of Geriatric Emergency Medicine in Malaysia. He is interested in dementia, frailty and falls in elderly patients.
How often do you encounter an elderly present to emergency department with a fall? Yes, it is so common that it might just happened in your last shift. Fall is a great concern in the elderly. In this short session, we try to understand some current figures and challenges of falls in the elderly.
The approach of fall in the elderly is progressing from time to time with clinical evidence. A short summary including screening, assessment, interventions and potential complications will be discussed. This session serves as an introduction or a brief summary attempts to alert all clinicians on the importance of fall in elderly.
