Organs Failure - Screening Challenge in ED
SYMPOSIUM 4 - SEPSIS 1 (Hall 2)
26th October 2021 (0930 - 1050)

The Surviving Sepsis Campaign recommended the initiation and completion of Hour-1 Bundle among sepsis and septic shock patients. These are time-critical interventions, the implementation of which has been associated with significant mortality reduction. The most important and vital key step is the early identification of sepsis and septic shock patients among the vast ED population. Various studies have looked at the best screening tool and other parameters that can be instituted for this purpose but limitations still exist.

Therefore, it is paramount that we as the treating clinicians have good understanding about these limitations when incorporating such screening tools in our ED. This short lecture will briefly describe the overview on the screening of organ failures in ED, followed by a short dive deep into few key aspects that warrant careful considerations, and finally sharing out some of the most important pearls and pitfalls to help improve care.
